Ben is an ACMG Hiking Guide, avalanche forecaster, photographer, videographer, guidebook author, and also holds a PhD in Materials Engineering. Check out Ben's scrambling book A Peakbagger’s Guide to the Canadian Rockies: North (May 2017) and forthcoming day-hiking book Popular Day Hikes: Jasper, Mount Robson, Valemount, and the Yellowhead Highway (May 2024).

More About Ben

Our lead guide Ben Nearingburg has rambled far and wide across the mountains in western Canada. He has climbed all of the 56 peaks in the Canadian Rockies over 11000 ft (or 3353 m for metric-folks) and visited all of the 39 backcountry warden cabins across Jasper National Park. In addition to these feats, Ben has rambled around every nook and cranny of Jasper and Mount Robson Provincial Park’s, and has many tales to tell.

Life In Jasper

You might wonder what it is like to live in a National Park. It is a great privilege to be based in Jasper. Surrounded by mountains, grizzly bears, forests (and unfortunately mosquitoes), there are always things to do and a lifetime of terrain to explore. The summer season is Jasper is bustling with activity with upwards of 2 million people visiting the park each summer. Thankfully, the backcountry of Jasper, where our company operates, still remains a wild land with calm lakes and serene starry skies overhead. Winter in Jasper is a different world and it almost seems as if the townsite is hibernating (along with the grizzly bears).
