Day Hikes in Jasper National Park

Why go Day Hiking?

While there are a great number of roadside viewpoints in the Canadian Rockies, to truly experience the landscape it is best to lace up your boots and go for a hike. Whether you are in the mood for a pleasant stroll in the forest, or looking to hike to the top of a peak there is much to see. Take a look at the list below or feel free to get in touch about a custom day hiking adventure.

If you have a bit more time in the hills, consider one of our guided backpacking adventures that travel to some of the most scenic and alluring destinations in Jasper National Park and have been selected for their remoteness, and grand settings.

Note: Unlike for our Guided Backpacking Adventures, transportation to/from the trailheads is not provided for day hikes. You will need to make your own way to the trailhead.

Why Choose Starry Summit?

  • Safety (guides are skilled in managing backcountry hazards and certified in advanced wilderness first aid and emergency responses)

How Hard Are Trips, Is it for Me?

Our Day Hiking objectives normally travel between 10-15 km per day with between 500-1000 m of elevation gain. Guest pack weight need not be any heavier than 10-15 pounds and your guide can help carry extra food and water. We recommend each guest start training for their adventure by day-hiking, climbing stairs, and other activities prior to setting off to improve their experience while out in the wilderness.

A misty morning near Willow Creek

(INTRODUCTORY TO MODERATE) There are few better ways to appreciate the scale and splendor of the Canadian Rockies than by climbing a mountain.  A short drive east of the Jasper Townsite, Morro Peak is a great first-summit for adventurers new to the Rockies (or those looking in search of panoramic viewpoints).  The route climbs 700 m over the course of 6.8 km and is a great choice for day of exercise, and adventure.

5-7 Hours Round Trip

$150.00 Per Person (Includes, Guiding, Lunch and Hiking Poles)

(MODERATE) Perched east of the Columbia Icefield, Tangle Ridge is one of the best hikeable viewpoints in the range.  From the summit, hikers can glimpse Mount Athabasca, Snowdome, and a sea of peaks across the range.  Our journey starts by driving an hour south of the Jasper Townsite to a parking area beside the scenic waters of Tangle Falls.  A good trail leads up into the forest before emerging into the alpine where a faint path in scree (small stones) rises to ridgecrest.  This hike involves a considerable amount of elevation gain 1150 m over 10.8 km of distance, but lightweight packs and a steady pace make it suitable for a wide range of adventurers.
